Long and effective operation of the equipment is ensured by care and prevention by the user. Hotpoint Ariston washing machine is no exception. How to clean the filter to prevent the spread of bad smell? The procedure must be performed every month, so we will analyze in detail the progress of work and the causes of blockages.
How to find a filter in the Ariston washing machine?
One of the regular types of maintenance is cleaning the drain filter in the washer. When loading things, small objects forgotten in pockets get into a drum, garbage, hair and pile. All this, together with the waste water, passes through the filter (part is delayed by a protective screen), then it enters the pump and leaves through the drain hose to the sewer.
Timely cleaning of the drain elements ensures a normal outflow of water and the efficient operation of the equipment. Where is the filter located? In Ariston brand washing machines, the part is located behind a long basement door under a loading hatch. Open it and proceed to remove the blockage.
Cleaning the filter in the SMA "Ariston"
Start with the preparatory work. You will need:
- flat capacity;
- rag;
- screwdriver.
Take care of safety and disconnect the machine from electricity. Also turn off the inlet taps in case you have to move or reject the housing. Follow the instructions below:
- Squeeze and slightly lift the false panel, moving it from its place. If the cover does not lend itself, pry the latches with a slotted screwdriver.
- Tilt the SMA housing back and lean against the wall.
- Place a container under the bottom or lay something unnecessary on the floor - an old towel, a rag.
- Grab the filter handle by hand and slowly turn it to the left.
- Remove the part from the housing. Be careful, water will pour immediately.
Now you can remove large blockages from the net and wash the element under running water with a sponge. For strong plaque and mold, use citric acid. You can also soak the parts in warm water with a lemon.
Important! Do not wash the filter in hot water. This will damage the plastic and the part will become unusable.
Inlet also check for debris, wipe with a rag. After check the impeller of the pump. To do this, look into the hole. Sometimes hair and threads are wound around the impeller, which may soon block the drain. Remove all foreign objects.
After cleaning, replace the filter. Make sure that the element fits smoothly along the thread, without distortions. Otherwise, there may be leakage during washing. Run a test rinse without laundry and make sure that there are no leaks from the bottom.
If you follow the manufacturer's recommendations, then cleaning should be carried out once every 2-3 months. Here it is worth considering the number of people in the family and the frequency of washing. If you wash several times a day, then remove blockages at least once a month.
There was a leak after cleaning
Did you run a test wash and notice that water is dripping from below? What is the reason and how to fix the situation:
- The filter is weakly or crookedly tightened along the thread. Place a rag, unscrew the parts and screw them in again. Tighten but do not tear the thread.
- The gasket is damaged. Around the element is a rubber gasket that seals the hole. If it is damaged, install a new one or replace the entire structure.
Careless handling could lead to damage to the part, thread breakage. Therefore, if the previous recommendations did not help eliminate the leak, it is better to replace the snail with a filter. Parts are not so expensive when compared with the cost of repairs after the flood.
Why is it important to clean the filter?
Dirt, mold and fungus can become a serious problem for human health. A dark and humid environment is an ideal place for the reproduction of microorganisms. Here is what a lack of cleaning can lead to:
- The musty smell of linen. Expect to get clean and fragrant things, but instead feel an unpleasant odor? The garbage in the filter may be stuck and smell bad, which over time affects the quality of the wash.
- Long drain of water. Over time, the technique will begin to freeze, and later completely refuse to drain the liquid. This is because pollution does not allow water to enter the drainage pump.
- Damage to the pump. The pump may ultimately become blocked and damaged by foreign objects. Replacing a part will entail considerable costs.
The filter is not pulled out: what to do?
Sometimes an element is so clogged and scaled that it refuses to leave the nest. Perhaps the part is cranking a little or not giving in to efforts at all. Try to rotate the element using pliers. Only be careful not to damage the fragile plastic.
Tap the housing near the filter to move the jammed object in place. Nothing helps? Then you have to dismantle the pump. Fortunately, the site is located directly under the bottom of the washer. In Ariston machines, the bottom is either absent or easily removed.
After dismantling, all elements are cleaned and installed in place. In severe cases, it is necessary to replace the filter with the pump scroll.
As you can see, the procedure is not difficult to carry out independently. The main thing is not to tighten until the part is attached or covered with a thick layer of scale. Continuous prevention will save you and the equipment from problems in the future.
