Why is the dishwasher not washing? You loaded the dishes, started the washing cycle, which ended successfully, but when you opened the door, did you find dishes in dirty stains or were they all washed up? The dishwasher may not pick up the detergent or draw water, but it will not wash the appliances. To find and fix the problem, read the article.
Causes and Symptoms of PMM Failure
First you need to understand exactly how the machine performs the cycle. Each symptom may indicate a separate breakdown. Please note your dishwasher:
- I got water, but I don’t wash the dishes. At the exit, the plates are dirty and not touched by water.
- I stopped washing the cutlery, because at the end of the cycle the dishes are wet, but dirty.
- Washes badly. The equipment worked on the established program, but the result is poorly washed utensils.
Why did PMM begin to work poorly? The reasons can be varied, here are some of them:
- errors during operation;
- problems with water supply;
- water does not circulate in the system at the proper level;
- no detergent intake;
- sprinkler malfunction (top or bottom).
Only a thorough inspection will help determine where the breakdown occurred. Let's consider everything in order.
Incorrect operation of the dishwasher
Each dishwasher (Ariston, Bosch, Kuppersberg) is accompanied by instructions. The manufacturer really expects that you will read it, because most of the problems arise when the elementary rules for using the PMM are not followed.
- Dried food leftovers on dishes. No matter how good the technique, it is recommended to completely clean the dishes from pieces of food. Otherwise, the washing result will not be ideal.
- Invalid program. You want to save resources, so install short programs. They are designed for lightly contaminated devices. Grease and stubborn dirt must be removed at high temperature.
- Incorrect selection of detergent. Your powder may not be dishwasher safe. Try changing the tool.
The arrangement of dishes in baskets is also important. Here are the mistakes users make:
- They put large dishes and plates in the upper section, and small cups and glasses in the lower section. This blocks the access of water to appliances.
- Place objects in a pan near the sprayer, which may block its operation.
- Place the plates so that they close the detergent drawer.
It is important to properly care for the dishwasher. The drain must be cleaned 1-2 times a month, and also once every six months to run chemical cleaning cycles.
The reason that the equipment fills with water and does not work, may be scale. Outside it is not noticeable, but inside it settles on metal parts. She can clog the nozzles in the beam, blocking the exit of water. Therefore, it is important to use special salt. It reduces the level of water hardness, and hence the amount of harmful impurities.
Do it yourself with PMM
There are more serious problems that need repair.
No water intake
Why does the system heat water but do not wash the dishes? The control board “thinks” that there is water in the tank because it receives such data from the pressure switch. As a result, the heater turns on for heating, but without water it overheats and burns. So, you need to check the level sensor.
Observe the operation of the dishwasher. If you see that the technique works, but don’t hear the characteristic murmur when drawing water, then you need to check the inlet valve.
What to do:
- stop the program;
- check shutoff valve;
- check valve.
Usually it is located below the front panel. But different manufacturers may place the valve on the side and back.
We describe the general sequence of work:
- shut off the water supply;
- remove the bottom panel under the door;
- disconnect the inlet hose;
- there is a valve behind it;
- check the electronic part of the part with a multimeter, connect the probes to the contacts and see the value;
- if the valve is working, it will show from 500 to 1500 Ohms;
- check the mechanical part by applying a voltage of 220 V; if at the same time the membrane opens - the part is operational;
- to replace, disconnect the hose and wiring from the valve;
- set a new item.
Also check the inlet hose and strainer. Cleaning is carried out under pressure from a tap.
Water does not circulate well, problems with detergent powder
If there is a normal water intake, but the equipment does not start to wash or does not wash the dirt off the dishes, then the circulation system in the PMM is broken. Check:
- Nozzles Open the hopper, pull up the baskets. Remove the lower and upper sprinklers. Clean the nozzles with a toothpick and rinse under the tap.
- Circulation pump. The machine draws water, but then stops. For diagnosis, you have to disassemble the dishwasher.
Important! The circulation unit (or engine) is an expensive part. Sometimes it is better to entrust the work to the master.
What do we have to do:
- disconnect the PMM from the network and communications;
- put on an empty seat and lay an old blanket (towel);
- flip the case to the back panel;
- remove the bottom panel under the door;
- unscrew the screws around the perimeter and remove the pan (first disconnect the float sensor, which is located on the pan);
- in the center you will find a circulation block;
- inspect the pump, ring the electronic part with a multimeter;
- in case of a malfunction, the element will have to be completely replaced.
If you are convinced that the water normally washes the dishes, but there are stains and leftovers on the surface, check the detergent dispenser. Unscrupulous manufacturers make a cuvette from cheap material.
When exposed to hot steam, the plastic expands. Therefore, the compartment is jammed. The tablet cannot dissolve normally. The way out is replacing the cuvette or fitting the compartment with your own hands.
Problems with heating
Depending on the PMM device, damage can occur in different ways. In more modern models, a temperature sensor is integrated that monitors the heating temperature. If you set the program to 70 degrees, then when the temperature is reached, the sensor sends a signal to the module, which turns off the heater.
If the heater burns out, then the machine (Bosch, Siemens, Ariston and others) draws water, starts to heat and stops. Models without a sensor continue to work with cold water, so the devices are poorly washed.
How to understand that washing occurs in cold water? Open the door after the cycle. Walls and utensils should be warm. You can also touch the nozzle at the first discharge.
Typically, a flow heater is installed in the machines, so if the breakdown occurs, the entire unit will have to be changed. The sequence of operations is the same as when replacing the pump. Only first you need to unscrew the fixing screws inside the camera.
When the equipment does not turn on and does not start, the case may be in the control module. This is the most serious failure that cannot be fixed on its own. The electronic board controls all the processes in the dishwasher. You can check it, but it is better to entrust the repair to a specialist.
We have listed the possible reasons for the deterioration of dishwashing quality. If you notice something like this, proceed to fix the problem. After all, why do you need a machine that does not fulfill its main function?
