Do-it-yourself fence made of netting netting is very relevant for summer cottages, since serious metal or any other monolithic fencing between sections is simply prohibited. The chain-link is an excellent, inexpensive, affordable material for everyone, widely used for the construction of fences or fences for summer cottages. The mesh structure of the grid does not obscure the areas with plants (like slate or siding), freely passes air streams, the rays of the sun. In addition, this material has been successfully used to block areas of reservoirs, poultry houses, animal habitats, and technical areas.
Before you make a fence from a mesh netting you need to take into account all the nuances, and especially the size of the cells. For example, if you or your neighbors keep chickens at the cottage, then the cell size should be minimal (so that the living creatures do not penetrate someone else's site). For the usual division of the territory, a grid with cells of any size is suitable.
Types of mesh netting
Today in the market of building materials there are three types of mesh available and successfully used.
The difference in the material from which it is made:
- Non-galvanized, non-painted mesh made of ferrous metal. Such a netting does not have a long service life, after a few days it starts to rust. It is used as a temporary material before installing more serious fences, however, coating with paint significantly extends its life.
- The chain-link galvanization is not subject to rusting, it is the most widespread building material in those cases when the presence of just such mesh fences is required.
- Grid the chain-link plastic for a fence (with a polymer coating). This is a steel mesh coated with a layer of polyvinyl chloride. It has a modern aesthetic appearance, it is not afraid of moisture, corrosion processes. Such a lattice is plastic, does not burst during deformations, and is excellent for installation in areas with a high level of acid or alkali in the soil. An additional plus is the fact that plasticized netting is available in different colors.
The netting braided by curly plants and flowers looks very aesthetically pleasing, and if it is green itself (plastic coating), then it is doubly attractive.
Installing a fence from the netting net, as the best
DIY fences can be built in two ways:
- by tensioning the mesh between the support legs,
- installation of sections (in the second case, a welding machine is required).
Support racks are metal (for example, pipes), concrete or wood. For a more thorough sectional fence, you will need metal corners for the manufacture of the frame. Such a fence will look more aesthetically pleasing, but at the price it will be much more expensive. The tension option is simpler, but also quite practical. In any case, the choice must be made by you.
The place of the future fence is marked with pegs between which the string is stretched. The length of the rope should be equal to the length of the net, but for reliability it is better to stock up with a large number of meters. The installation location of the pegs is a blueprint where the posts for the fence from the netting will stand, so it is better if the distance between them does not exceed one and a half to two meters. This material (mesh) has the ability to bend, so you should not make too large distances between the racks.
The depth of the pits for the supports is usually a meter and a half, and the corner posts are installed first of all (more pressure always goes on them). To strengthen the corner posts, a sand-gravel mixture is additionally poured onto the bottom of the pit, compacted, poured with a cement solution.
Until the mixture has completely solidified, the pillar must not be touched. Also for these purposes it is appropriate to use a building plumb or level. Options for strengthening the supports depend on the preferences of the builder, on the purpose of the fence.

After the concrete mixture has hardened, a line of hooks follows, for which the chain-link will hook. Typically, nails or large diameter wires are used for these purposes, which are then welded to the supports using a welding machine.
It should be borne in mind that now on sale there are ready-made painted poles that have hooks. Before tensioning the mesh, metal supports are painted with paint, and wooden ones are treated with special protective agents (along the entire length). After this, the chain link is stretched and put on the hooks with cells. For a more reliable fastening, some summer residents additionally wrap the support with a wire mesh.
To make the installation of a fence from the netting with your own hands as reliable as possible, it is recommended to use a reinforcing technique. Additionally, a vertical support rod is installed. To do this, in the first or second row of cells, a rod or a reliable thick wire is threaded from above, which is also welded to the posts (or attached to a wooden support). This technique does not allow the grid to sag over time and strengthens the entire structure as a whole. Make sure that the tension is elastic. The subsequent process is similar for other supports.
There is another, quite common option for fastening - a fence made of netting netting on sleds (wooden veins). The difference in installation is that the grid is not fixed on the pillar itself, but on a wooden board (vein) attached to this support. Lightly attaches to the top and bottom of the main support.
When the fence is installed, do not be too lazy to take pliers, bend all the upper hooks of the chain link downwards - so you will be sure that no one is accidentally injured.
It happens that the enclosed area has an uneven terrain, in these cases, the so-called terracing is performed. It is done in a similar way: the support pillar is installed at the site of the soil drop. On the one hand, the grill is mounted at a certain level, and on the other (the next piece of the grid) is already higher or lower - according to the height of the difference. In this case, the netting for the fence is cut into fragments.
But there is another option for installing fences, optimally suited for uneven ground - sections.
Sectional net fence
These sections are welded metal frames that are made of corners. Inside such a frame there is a chain-link, and it is welded to the support column. At the initial stage of installation, pegging is also used, only the poles are already going more powerful, since they are under increased load. If you decide to make a durable sectional fence from a netting net, then filling the strip foundation will not be superfluous, however, without it, such a design will also last a long time.
The dimensions of the frame are determined individually, the distance between the supports is 15-20 cm less. In turn, the width of the frame should also be less than the length of the column by about 15-20 cm. A roll of mesh with a saw-grinder is cut into sections of the required sizes. A metal rod is threaded into the upper part of the fragment. It is welded to the top of the frame. Using the same method, the remaining sides of the grid are attached to the frame.
The next step is to attach the supporting metal strips (about 5 cm wide and 30 cm long) to the support (they are also welded). After that, the section is placed between the posts and welded directly to these strips. At the final stage, a sectional fence made of netting netting is painted with paint.
Installing a tension fence will not require special skills from you, it will not take much time, while the sectional structure is preferable to install with an assistant, and preferably with two.
This type of fence will serve you for many years, if any part of the fence is damaged during operation, then it is easy to repair it. Despite its “airiness”, the fence from the netting net is a serious obstacle for intruders - the tensile structure is flexible, it will be very difficult to stay on it. And, if you install it with your own hands, then this is the most economical and fastest option for a country fence, and with an individual approach it is very aesthetic and attractive.
